DL-Phenylalanine is an ingredient that is found in some diet pill formulas, as well as in health supplements for a range of other purposes. This substance has been studied for many years, in order to better understand its function in the body and to be able to discover some of the many benefits that it can provide when used in proper amounts.
The substance, itself, is a form of amino acid. It is used by the human body for a number of reasons, but it is unable to produce DL-phenylalanine on its own. This means that in order to benefit from it, people must consume it in food or take it in the form of supplements.
Among the studies that have looked into this ingredient includes one entitled “Decarboxylase Inhibition and Blood Pressure Reduction by α-Methyl-3,4-Dihydroxy-DL-phenylalanine” which was published in the Science journal. This showed that people who have hypertension (high blood pressure) saw a relaxing effect from its use, potentially reducing the risks of high blood pressure.
A 1985 study in Psychiatry Research journal called “Treatment of attention deficit disorder with DL-phenylalanine” showed that this substance could help people with ADHD to be able to overcome their issues with focus. While it did not cure the symptoms, it did show some improvements in being able to better cope with them.
The Journal of Neural Transmission published research in 1977 called “DL-Phenylalanine in Depressed Patients” which showed that supplementation of this amino acid helped to improve the symptoms of patients that had been diagnosed with depression. It indicated that there could be powerful antidepressant properties within this ingredient.
Many other studies have looked into DL-phenylalanine (PEA), particularly throughout the seventies, eighties, and nineties.
What has since been suggested is that this ingredient is important for providing overall mood support and for easing tension. This is an important benefit to be included into the formula of a diet pill, as motivation issues represent some of the largest struggles that are faced by dieters – even among those that have been consistently losing weight.
Due to the challenging nature of pursuing a goal that involves significant weight loss, it can be easy to start to lose the drive to continue keeping up with the regular exercise and the healthy eating strategies. With the added support of supplementation such as DL-phenylalanine, some dieters could find that this process becomes easier and that motivation can be more readily maintained.
