Carnitor is an amino acid that is naturally produced by the human body. That said, it is also included in supplements in order to produce a range of different effects, including in weight loss supplements.

This ingredient may be listed on a product label under any of a spectrum of different names. Carnitor is among the more approachable of the names that are used, as many have quite a chemical sound to them due to the ingredient’s nature as an amino acid. Some of the alternative possible names in which this substance may be listed include: 3-hydroxy-4-N-trimethylaminobutyrate, L-3-hydroxy-4-(trimethylammonium)-butyrate, Levocarnitine Fumurate, L-Carnitine Fumarate, B-hydroxy-N-trimethyl aminobutyric acid, (3-carboxy2-hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium hydroxide inner salt, 3-carboxy-2-hydroxy-N,N,N-trimethyl-1-propanaminium inner salt, or vitacarn, among many other names.

The idea behind adding carnitor to supplements is to boost the natural levels within the body. As amino acids are a building block for proteins, there are several reasons that a person might want to supplement the carnitor their body is naturally producing. This could be because they’re trying to build muscle mass as a body builder, to preserve muscle mass while losing weight, or to replace the substance that is not being adequately produced due to a genetic disorder or because other drugs are being taken and they lead carnitor levels to fall. These supplements may also be taken in advance of certain medical procedures such as kidney disease hemodialysis.

It is important not to simply guess at the way this substance should be taken as not enough is known about it to be able to use it properly without expert guidance.

Once the body converts it into other amnio acids, they can be utilized for producing energy. This is vital for muscle movement, brain and heart function and several other processes within the body.
